Brian Littrell: I'm In Over My Head

By Bonnie Gray • September 4, 2009 • 4 Comments

If you’re in over your head, standing at the edge of indecision over the pool of God’s love, today’s song is for you.

Artist: Brian Littrell
Album: Welcome Home
Year: 2006
Title: Over My Head

Oh, I could not hardly wait to serve up this week’s Worship Smoothie!  One listen to today’s love song, Over My Head, by contemporary Christian recording artist, Brian Littrell (best known as a member of the Backstreet Boys), and you will be hitting that replay button again and again.

If you’ve been standing at the edge of indecision, at the pool of God’s love, this song was sung for you.

If you’re trying to figure out if it’s safer to stay dry on the sidelines or just jump into the cool, refreshing calm waters into Jesus’ arms, this song was written for you.

And if you feel like I do, in over your head in this walk of faith — you’ve come too far to go back, yet still journeying through the land of letting go  — this song is for us.

I listen to this song, and it makes me want to run out of my small world into the love and safety of God’s big world.

I hear the lyrics, along with it’s guitar acoustics and sweet piano notes, I feel sunshine, spring flowers, and ice cream cones on a hot summer day.

For those who have a sweet tooth for happy days, filled with the laughter of childhood trust and innocence, we have a chorus to sing today:

I’m in over my head
Right where I wanna be
I’m so lost within Your love
The love that always covers me
So high, so deep, so wide
A strong and cleansing tide
My soul has found a place to rest
I’m in over my head

Hold on tightly, and let the current of God’s love carry us through.  Whatever challenge you may be facing, whatever joy you may be celebrating, jump in.  God’s rest is just right… over our heads.

Happy Friday!  And may everything beautiful fill your long weekend.  May the hours run slow to be enjoyed and fast to stir your hearts with laughter.

What do you think of your smoothie today?  You like?

Lyrics to Over My Head - By Brian Littrel

I tried to figure it out
Time and time again and time again
I guess there's just some things I'll never understand
'Cause Your ways aren't our ways
But deep down in my soul, down in my soul
There is one thing I know that I know

I'm in over my head
Right where I wanna be
I'm so lost within Your love
The love that always covers me
So high, so deep, so wide
A strong and cleansing tide
My soul has found a place to rest
I'm in over my head

I've been holding on
Now I'm letting go, just letting go
Gonna let Your love carry me away
I don't know where I'm going
But I'm surrounded by the truth
And I can feel the current pulling me
Deeper into You

I'm in over my head
Right where I wanna be
I'm so lost within Your love
The love that always covers me
So high, so deep, so wide
A strong and cleansing tide
My soul has found a place to rest
I'm in over my head

You see me for who I am
You did reach out Your hand
You made me understand
That Your love has always covered me

    Great post yet again, Bonnie.

I had forgotten that he was in the Backstreet Boys. I hear his name all the time and had completely forgotten that link!

Thanks for the worship smoothie. I’m sure glad they’re free!
