God In Every Season: Desert Song

By Bonnie Gray • October 2, 2009 • 17 Comments

All of our lives, in every season, God is still God.  We have a reason to sing and worship.

Artist: Hillsong
Album: This is Our God
Year: 2008
Title: Desert Song

Change is the theme of fall.  With leaves falling and skies going darker earlier, we can’t help but be impressed with the message nature brings.

To mark the occasion, I’ve got the perfect Worship Smoothie to awaken us to renewal and heighten our senses towards change.

Whenever I hear Desert Song, from Christian praise and worship album by Hillsong, it never fails to bring me to worship.

Whether walking through a desert, trial, battle, or harvest, this song covers it all.

Some weeks, I can go through two extremes:  swinging one day into battle to landing on another day in harvest.

Does that ever happen to you?

Desert Song lyrics provides inspiration for both:

This is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand

This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be emptied again
The seed I’ve received I will sow

At the end of the day, nothing can derail us from God’s destiny for us.

God is with us in every season, no matter how long it lasts.

I don’t know about you, but this song totally makes me rise up and praise Him.  God is so awesome for giving us music and lyrics to lift up our souls!

*Special Post This Sunday Oct. 4*
It’s a post that’s so personally significant, I consider it one of My Top 3 Faith Changers of the Year. Be sure to come and catch it!

Happy Friday!  And may nothing stand in your way to joy, joy and more joy this weekend.

Do your plans for the weekend include joy? What goes through your mind listening to Desert Song?

Lyrics to Desert Song - By Hillsong (Sung By Brook Fraser and Jill McCloghry)
Verse 1:
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides
Verse 2:
This is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flame
CHORUS:
I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
Verse 3:
This is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I'll stand
BRIDGE:
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
Verse 4:
This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be emptied again
The seed I've received I will sow

    Hi Bonnie,

Thank you for sharing this great song. It comes to me this morning as a reminder that I have a reason to sing. That reason is my Jesus. The joy and peace and love and favor…. all of it is because of Him.

I have joy plans for the weekend. Perhaps our 2nd grandchild will arrive in the next couple of days. In the meantime we have plans to enjoy some live praise music this evening at a coffee shop downtown. The season is certainly changing here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I welcome the cool days and bright blue sky.

Hope your weekend is full of joy too.

What a great song! I love the lyrics to the bridge, especially, “I have a reason to worship.” Let our lives, even the little interactions and things we do, be an act or worship… Thank you Father for Bonnie!

How can you NOT feel such joy and victory with this line:

“…..I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ”

Love this song…….thanks so much for sharing it today! I am in a little bit of a “fire” right now and know that God is doing alot in the refining department! (much needed)

    Peace~

And a time for EVERY purpose under heaven.”

    Thanks for sharing, Bonnie.

What a wonderful way to get into the weekend.. with your voices joining me here!

@Kathleen: A baby grandchild?! Wow, that is a very special joy in store for you! 😉 Congratulations on your second bundle of joy. I’m definitely envious (in a good way) for your plans for some live praise music at a coffee shop! worship & coffee!?! Seventh heaven for sure!
    @Billy: The lyrics are phenomenal.
@Bridget: It’s amazing how good it is.
@Russell: Yeah, the drums and rhythm really go well with the buildup and release at the bridge, don’t you think? Thank you Father for Russell!
@Ginny: You’re welcome, Ginny! Praise Him!
@Michelle: Peace, Michelle. All that refining is already pouring out on your awesome blog.
@Heather: Your surfing post lifted me up, Heather!
@Anne: Keep on, sister! I enjoyed your blog post. Such spirit!

“God is with us in every season, no matter how long it lasts.”

In this life that season is short, whatever season it is. So blessings we don’t hold too tight and sorrows we don’t drink too deep.

But hold fast that God is with us through it all and that will last for eternity.

    Oh yes …

This, … oh this is it right here: … “I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ”

    That is the answer
    to every pain
    every struggle
    every mountain
    every burden
    every mess
    every hurt
    every sorrow.

We are co-heirs to the One on the Throne.

    Incredible.

Ooooo, two poets are in the hooouuuse! 😉 L-o-v-e it!

Doug – “So blessings we don’t hold too tight and sorrows we don’t drink too deep.” How beautifully true is that. Now, that’s one to tuck in my back pocket.

Jennifer: “That is the answer .. to every ..” Your words are lyrics to our real life sound track. Co-heirs. It IS incredible. Thank you!

We sing this at church and I absolutely love it. I reminds me that I don’t have to be something for others. Regardless of what season I’m in (which right now is young motherhood), He is still God, I have a reason to love, praise, worship, sing and give to Him.

What goes through my mind as I listen to this song? How awesome my God is and graditude for all He is!

    • Reply Bonnie Gray January 11, 2010 at 10:13 am

I simply love it. It comes right through the words and the music.

  • Reply Chris September 28, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Love the lyrics. I can really identify with the first verse,

“This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides”

Excited that God is providing for me even now.

    Great song!
