Leaving Town For Uncomfortable Bliss

By Bonnie Gray • October 16, 2009 • 9 Comments

God invites us to a love experience, but it’s call to intimacy will take us beyond comfortable.  If we accept the encounter, we will live like we used to dream.

Artist:  Brandon Heath
Album:  Don’t Get Comfortable
Year: 2006
Title: Don’t Get Comfortable

I like predictability.  He and I became fast friends throughout the years. Whenever life threw me a curve ball, I’d jump to the side and fall back on routine and safety nets.

We’re only young once.  I should be so lucky, to have some dreams tucked away, before they ripened and fell off the tree of grown-up realities.

Somewhere along the way, I got comfortable with settling in with the way things had worked out.

The Town of Contentment

Through many dangers, toils and snares, God miraculously brought me to a place called Contentment.

It’s been a wonderful place of surrender, this town Contentment.

I began to set up shop downtown, built my cabin a few miles up along the ridge.  A vigorous hike to and from the daily hustle bustle, I retired in the evenings to my room, my books, and a warm kettle of tea.

Until one day, someone rode into town.

He stood tall and handsome.

One look into his eyes.  I knew who it was.

A Pioneering Life of Love

It’s God.  Now that He’s got me where He wants me, He’s asking to take me on horseback and ride out further west.

A pioneering life, He calls it.  Will you come with Me?

God is love. As such, His aim is to capture me alone and take me outside of my comfortable existence.

His heart is set on winning me over to new heights, unseen experiences and deeper levels of companionship.

Riding Away To Uncomfortable Bliss

Today’s Worship Smoothie comes to you from a hand that has clasped the One who called to me that day.

Everyday, He continues to offer me a taste of uncomfortable bliss.

Others who have gone on ahead have written to assure me in the Scriptures, the uneasiness will increasingly grow into second nature.

What may feel uncomfortable will become a wildflower called Faith.

The song I’ve chosen today comes through the voice of Christian musician Brandon Heath:  Don’t Get Comfortable.

When I heard the lyrics to this song, something in me moved:

I just want to show you what I mean
I just want to love like you’ve never seen
Do you want to live like you used to dream?
This is your new song.

Can you feel the call of love?
Is it moving you to be a child of God of love?
Is it reaching you?
It’s everywhere the call of love.

Happy Friday, my fellow faith travelers.

I hope you enjoy this wonderful song.

As you enter into the weekend, may His call to love move mountains and move you into bliss.

Lyrics to Don't Get Comfortable - By Brandon Heath
Comfortable, don’t get comfortable.
I am gonna’ move this mountain then I’m gonna move you in.
Yesterday, this is not yesterday.
You were standing on my shoulders now; you’re standing on the edge.
You’ve been looking for a sign all this time.
I am gonna show you what I mean
I am gonna love like you’ve never seen
You are gonna live like you used to dream
This is your new song
So afraid but you don’t have to be afraid
Even if you make mistakes
You know that I’ll remain
You’ve been looking for a sign all this time.
If you seek you’ll find me every time.
So I am gonna show you what I mean
I am gonna’ love like you’ve never seen
You are gonna live like you used to dream
This is your new song
Na na na na na na na na nanaaah
Na na na na na na na na nanaaah
Can you feel the call of love?
Is it moving you to be a child of God of love?
Is it reaching you?
It’s everywhere the call of love.
I just want to show you what I mean
I just want to love like you’ve never seen
Do you want to live like you used to dream?
Then I’ve got a song for you
Coz I am gonna show you what I mean
I am gonna’ love like you’ve never seen
You are gonna live like you used to dream
This is your new song
Na na na na na na na na nanaah
You’ve got a new song
