A New You Begins
A new you begins. Today. That’s what I told myself last year. And the year before that… I’ll start a podcast. I won’t be afraid.
I don’t know why, but I just love talking to people. I love hearing their stories. That’s really why I started Faith Barista. To pull up a chair with friends to share the journey. Swap stories and get inspired by real conversations about everyday life. I want to share it all with you.
I’ve been wanting to start this podcast for years now. But that day never really came. Because there was always a reason I didn’t felt qualified, ready or prepared. Critical voices would start in on me. “What would you have to say? What makes you so special?” Sound familiar? Yes, they’ve kept my hands and my heart locked up too.
Yet, the idea wouldn’t let me go. God didn’t let me go.
During my morning walk before Thanksgiving, it hit me: God isn’t calling me to start something because I feel qualified or ready.
God is calling me to follow the quiet whispers He’s put on my heart. He’s calling me to follow him. Imperfectly.
This is how a new you begins. God whispered. As the beloved. My beloved. As is.
So, you see, today’s Coffee Break For Your Soul Podcast is a really celebration we share together!

That was such a nice conversation between friends. Linger spoke to me. I’m always trying to get my words in when if I let the conversation linger I would listen more. And learn more.
Donna,
In visiting a local Calvary Chapel Sunday my ahh moment was what he said ” We have 2 ears and 1 mouth, so we have to listen 2X as much as we speak” James 1:19 Pastor Steve Calvary Chapel N Stafford, VA.
thanks, donna! linger is such a soul-stirring word… it invites others to linger and i find people share their stories… which in turn feeds mine…
“God is calling me to follow the quiet whispers He’s put on my heart. He’s calling me to follow him. Imperfectly.”… To have a Mary Christmas, not a Martha one
That is such a wonderful way of putting it. I must remember the “Mary Christmas, not the Martha one.” Thanks.
doug, you are always expressing some of the most quotable words… LOVE have a Mary Christmas, not a Martha one… that speaks!!
Hi Bonnie, wanted to 1st thank you for the prayer you wrote with my last comment , it worked!
As for the podcast it was wonderful as i had my cup of joe, i tend to take it black ( because i like a couple of cups in the morning ) though i will spurge on a caffe latte occasionally!!
I enjoyed the thoughts of the season and since i missed my Ladies Christmas Tea @ CCGV this was a wonderful replacement! We would invite our friends and linger over a cup of tea and small sandwichs and desserts. I love the Sabbath intention making that time special with family and friends. As i move to our new home i have some intention to make room/ space available to what God wants us to do.
We are also visiting local churches to see which one God will settle in our hearts to make it our home.
Feliz Navidad to you and your family.
hi miriam, thanks for sharing the update to your prayers. it’s so good to know you’re experiencing His words echoing back to you, right where you are! congratulations on your new home and may God touch your heart to see the beauty of the space and new journey He’s walking with you in your new home. Feliz Navidad friend to you and your loved ones.
Dear Bonnie, I listened to the podcast while drinking very hot tea with honey (I had two cups of coffee this morning :)) and I laughed and pondered and was touched by the conversation. This half hour allowed me to take rest from the business around me as I sat down on my sofa to listen. I was immediately drawn to what was said about letting go of expectations and building hope and finding true peace through spending more quiet time with God. Often I do not sit down and spend this time in peace and silence because I am too busy “getting things done,”,but the truth is the daily duties of life will never end. Also, I think that when we let go of expectations, we become more forgiving (especially to our own children and family), and that is how I would hope others would be to me. And thank you for reminding me that God loves my heart.
anuradha! you love very hot tea with honey too!! that’s where i first got inspired with that idea to put honey in my tea and my coffee extra hot! what kind of tea do you like? i like chamomile lavendar… My heart was SO happy to know I was with you enjoying coffee for your soul podcast — and it invited you into a moment of reflections and quiet treat for your soul. what beautiful words from your heart, honest and true! thnx for sharing them. they feed my soul. encourages me to keep sharing.
If green, then I love an earthy oolong tea, if black, then it’s mostly freshly brewed honey-sweetened indian chai with cardamom, cloves, cinnamon stick and a pinch of ginger, and if herbal at the end of a long day then it’s definitely chamomile too! I love your lavender addition, what a treat! 🙂
What a beautiful idea from God’s leading. Looking forward to seeing what He can do through this!
thanks, beth, for sharing this moment together and enjoying a coffee break together… #kindreds sharing the journey. blessings!
Bonnie,
Thank you!!! I was so moved by this podcast and enjoyed hearing the voices of two wonderful women, in love with Jesus, sharing their hearts with us. There was a great deal of encouragement poured out in this tiny half an hour. As I jotted down some of the things said I realized as a pastor’s wife and counselor it is imperative I share your podcast with others. God has planted in my heart a strong desire to scatter hope all around and your visit with Kathi is clearly one great way. Thank you for facing down the fears and being obedient. We are blessed! Julie
julie! thank you so much! means so much to know that the conversation fed your soul — as a pastor’s wife, you pour out so much in the home and for the community… you are welcomed here. as is. as kindred and friend. to rest on your journey and get refreshed. thank you for feeling moved to share this podcast. so appreciate your heart!
This was such an enjoyable listen. I am proud of you for taking the scary step of finally starting your podcast dream.
thanks, kim! your encouragement is coffee for my soul — bring me warmth and kinship. so happy you enjoyed the time together on this podcast. i hope your day is touched with soulful rest!
Hi Bonnie, so enjoyed your podcast and happy that you listened to His whisper because Kindred, you ARE so very special. Your voice is unique and there will never be another duplicate of you on this earth. So please keep stepping bravely into what He’s calling you to do because it blesses and encourages others to do the same. And by the way, I always get my coffee extra-hot too. 🙂 xox
veronica, i take your words deep in my soul and they touch my heart. thank you for sharing this journey… and time together having coffee with this podcast. you are an encourager! and fellow extra-hot coffee kindred! (yes!) xo
Hi Bonnie,
This was really easy to listen to, thank you for being real. I enjoyed hearing from Kathi, and was challenged to think about expectations and being intentional with what I put into my schedule. Thanks!
oh, that is so good to hear. to know i’ve served a smooth, sweet cup of coffee for your soul… and it spoke to you… it can’t get any better than this moment across the miles with kindreds. thank you, Emma!
Seeking hopeful people when we find ourselves without hope. As a believer, I KNOW I always have hope, but I have certainly had seasons where I have way to FEELINGS of hopelessness. Instead of seeking hopeful people, I hibernated. I hid. But in the past two years God, through his body has been inviting into spaces that have surrounded me with hopeful people who have been bringing me back to life. This conversation reminded me of that and gave me opportunity and pause to give thanks ?
I sure do love seeing new posts from you, but I’m also excited to see how God is working in and through you as you go through the book writing process again. Cheering you on!!!?
dear emily, it was so, so precious to hear your reflection on hope — and to know the podcast prompted this sharing… i can’t tell you how much it encourages me to record the next one this week. this is the heart of why i wanted to have these conversations. your story is real – and it’s an experience we all connect with. by simply sharing we hide or hibernate — we are no longer alone and stepping out. thank you… and yes, please let me know as you follow God’s prompting on your heart. to find the hopeful people and to know you ARE loved and treasured. thank you for your encouragement!
Loved the podcast, Bonnie! Good for you, for being brave! Just what I needed to hear today! Praying a peaceful, restful, joyous Christmas for you and yours!
hi kathy, it was so sweet to read your words of encouragement. words are my love language, so you just blessed me so much – i can’t tell you how much it encourages me to record the next one this week.! to know the podcast is something that speaks to you, on your journey. thank you for taking time to share. thnk you!
I have been reading your blog for the past few weeks and really enjoy it. Today just before bedtime I listened to your first podcast. You both seemed very at ease as if you’ve done this all your life. I’m listening from Cape Town, South Africa, thought you’d like to know that you have a broader teach than you might think :). I was a little bit losing focus on the first five minutes as it was the longest convo I heard about coffee!! Haha but that said, it was very enjoyable to listen till the end. I never thought about being hope-bearers for others. What a great picture and beautiful reminder. Also the lingering part with people, I enjoy being with friends and making time for others however never really understood why we should linger. I thought it was a waste of time. Listening to you both this evening made me grasp something greater than just the mere fact of hanging out doing something, it’s about having a mission, an intentional time set aside where we don’t have to rush off to work or do some other chores, but like Mary, choosing the best part…being still…sitting with Jesus…lingering in His presence. And that’s what we do with others too, to make them feel what it’s like to be in fellowship… I am looking forward to more podcasts and have already shared the first episode with some of my friends who would love hearing this powerful message about hope and a more soulful Christmas. Keep writing and adding beauty in our lives Bonnie.

Thank you for this coffee break for my soul. Yes, it resonates with me. I am hearing God’s work in you and being warmly and gently invited to walk with him into healing and rest for my own heart and soul after years of serving and doing and performing to prove loveableness into simply BEING His beloved Esther girl. Imagine me raising my favorite mug with coffee-Cheers! To our Father’ continued loving on us.

It took me a while to find the time to listen. I enjoyed the podcast and took notes so I could remember some of your suggestions. The comment from the Seventh Day Adventist really resonates with me since I tend to wait for Sunday to get ready for the week instead of the other way around. Hope your family has a very Merry Christmas.
